Went to the Brookings Harbor Cafe recently and felt like the public deserved to hear my review. I woke up and decided I wanted to get out and do something, and I had heard the cafe was open and wanted to give it a shot. My girlfriend and I walked in, and the hostess seated us. The hostess, the cashier, and the kitchen staff all seemed well dress and groomed. We sat at our table and looked at the menu. Lots of good choices. Our waitress came to take our orders and she looked like the exact opposite of the other staff, sporting a highlighter pink shirt instead of a navy or white one. When asked for our drinks, I asked for water, and she asked for a coke no ice. A minute or so passes and the waitress drops off two cokes, one with no ice asking if we needed more time to think. We said yes, another minute, and she left quickly, before I could correct her mistake. I then noticed that our drinks price only covered one refill. About 5 minutes later, she came by again and took our order. I got the cowboy burger (the usual, onions, bbq sauce, bacon) and homemade potato chips. My girlfriend got the Brookings-Harbor sub and a salad with ranch dressing. We then corrected her on the ice water I had asked for and she left with the coke with ice she had given me. Now were waiting, and observing other tables, wondering if the woman is the only one waitressing. A woman at another table asked for a menu, and the waitress replied very rudely. I believe it was her tone that turned this sentence from a normal understanding tone to a rude remark. She said I have three other tables that need to order and then Ill come help you. The two other women with her looked absolutely shocked, and hearing her tone, I did too. The woman then got up, found the hostess and asked her for a menu instead. A few minutes later, she came back with our water. Now I was just observing things, and feeling a lot of tension in the atmosphere from our waitress. One of the other women found the owner and put in a complaint against the waitress for being rude. Then, a sweet woman came out and delivered our food. She had a smile on her face, well groomed and happy to be working from what it looked like. She asked if everything was ok, and went on her way. First thing I noticed was that my girlfriend had gotten chunky blue cheese dressing rather than ranch, but she used it anyways so she wouldnt have to make a fuss. Second thing was the nine potato chips I got on my plate, and the mediocre burger that came with it, that I paid $9-10 for. We started eating and overall my girlfriend liked her sub. But the overpowering bitter from the arugula in her salad made it hard to eat, and we had been waiting on a refill that never came, so she stopped eating. My burger was about the size of a big mac from Mcdonalds. It had 2 slices of bacon on it, along with a pickle spear and some vegetables. After eating, Id say the flavor was well executed but the portion size was pretty bad. We got our check and left at $21 in. I personally would say go to Dairy Queen and get their DQ ultimate if you want the same (if not better) quality for 1/2 the price. Or, spend a little more for a few martinis and go to Superfly who has wowed me (and sent me home with leftovers) quite frequently. Overall, I was not impressed and I will not be going to this business again. Anyone else tried it? How was your experience?
