Went to the Museum of Afro-Brasil today was really touched by their focus on the African diaspora. There was a great exhibit on capoeira and how it developed in Bahia Asa dancing and self defense style and then there was one on the role jogodars of African descent in Brasil had in shaping the sport and the censoring of that heritage in modern football. Also had this huge exhibit on Candomble which is one of the African indigenous religions that survived through slavery from the motherland and talked about the Orishas and their transformations into Roman Catholic saints then I just sat in this slave ship for a long time that was used to transport stolen Africans to this continent that was a real deep moment just being inside of something that represented pure evil felt like I wanted to cry. Never went to a museum this big dedicated to the black experience before in my life pretty sad to see it was completely empty.
