Went to the National Museum of Art in Ho Chi Minh City (Sai Gon) - TopicsExpress

Went to the National Museum of Art in Ho Chi Minh City (Sai Gon) yesterday, where the art is dominated by images of war. The Vietnamese people never welcomed the French who came here in the mid 19th century because Britain was getting all the cheap goodies from Asia and they wanted some, too. The war against French Colonial rule began in 1925. During WWII, after the Nazis defeated France, they traded Vietnam to the Japanese, so they fought against them. Then France re-entered after the WWII, more fighting against the French. When the French finally pulled out in 1954 they fought against the USA, considering us one more invader. The first piece of artwork we saw showing battles against the USA was from 1957. Over 150 years of fighting for independence cuts down on artwork of landscapes and picnics in the park, thats for sure.
