Were back from Food Secure Canadas National Assembly and would - TopicsExpress

Were back from Food Secure Canadas National Assembly and would like to report to all those who stepped up to the plate at the Food Exchange fundraiser that it was an investment well made. We were able to glean from nationwide initiatives, research, and create networks which can nourish these seeds and help to strengthen the movement in PEI. It was also great to see many Islanders there and look forward to the follow up event where we will come back to the table and share what we learned and discuss how to move some of these things forward for PEI. Successful initiatives such as NBs Community Food Mentorship program could easily be adopted to PEI and provide Islanders with many of the same benefits. NS Food ARC has after many years of research just released a toolbox of strategies to address food security which can be a valuable resource for PEI as well. These are just a few examples of what is happening across Canada and what can happen on PEI. The one thing that really resonated with me is that we cant wait for government to do it for us, transition towards more sustainable food systems are needed now, and all must come together to help make the necessary changes and demand/create better policies.
