Were driving north. The birds must think were crazy. Its snowing in Wisconsin Rapids, where were playing tomorrow night. Having got stuck in some wet grass this morning, Im not sure the minivan is the right vehicle for this trip. Today was a day of birds. Clouds of white birds boiled up from Arkansas cotton fields. Clouds of dark starlings swirled in Gods fascinating and unpredictable geometry before settling back down exactly where they came from. Vs upon Vs of geese embroidered the sky, folding into each other, switching leads in that great democratic migration. A fat hawk meditated on a power line beside the highway. In seven hours today, we listened to the new master of my next record, a Patton Oswalt show, The Freewheelin Bob Dylan, and a Fresh Air interview with Tom Waits. I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things. Tom loves his wife and it comes across even through his old carny jokes. I love him for it. We switch drivers every few hours. We stop and pick over the gas station shelves. We stick together. We share our m&ms. Thats what it takes to tour together. Something to share besides your great art. Eliot loves his girl too. We put weird things in each others beds. We make up terrible songs together. I think Tom would fit right in the van. Eliots leaving the tour tomorrow and were sad to see him go. Hes switching over to a four songwriter tour with Dean Fields, Andy Zipf, and Jason Miles Goss. Theyre playing Uncommon Ground tomorrow night. Check out his tour schedule and buy his new album here: eliotbronson Fly safe. Take chances. Love your girl. Your fan, JByrd
