Were fully back on deck now after a good break over Christmas and New Year - it was good to have a few days time out before getting stuck into the projects weve got lined up. From the team here at Styrotech, we hope you have had a nice break and were looking forward to what 2015 has in store for us! Demand for centre-board, rudder and wing cores from the guys at Mackays remained solid over the break. But the first official job of 2015 for us was a large template we made for a sign-writing company. Cut using 9mm MDF, the sign was 4.0m x 1.0m and is going to be used for painting. Due to its size, we needed to make it in 2 pieces, and to ensure that it all lined up we put some small puzzle type joins (like a jigsaw) to ensure that it lined up perfectly and was straight. On the 5-axis today weve got a large (1.2m across and .5m tall) female mould were cutting for a customer in the marine industry, while over on the 3-axis machines weve got some more centre-board cores and profile cutting of the layers of MDF thatll be laminated together to make the blank for the moulds were cutting on the 5-axis.
