Were not on the same page, my engineer said yesterday morning. I - TopicsExpress

Were not on the same page, my engineer said yesterday morning. I looked at him, as he continued, youre a day or two behind me. Again, I just looked at him. But, he said, when it comes to the important things you catch up with me. I poured my second cup of coffee and asked him, Do you know why hot air rises? And then I left the room. So, this morning I was summoned to listen to the answer of why hot air rises. Being summoned-- Websters dictionary defines it as a call to appear at a place named or to attend to a duty. So, I supposed this morning it was my duty to acknowledge the reasoning behind the question I asked yesterday. (My point totally missed, proving he is correct, we are not on the same page.) His page is: after all you did ask the question. My page is: Do you want sprinkles on your doughnut? So, I sit at that breakfast table kind of listening, trying to hold back the glaze forming on my eyes like the fog coming in off the San Francisco Bay. I begin to question in my mind, What is it with this talking thing in the morning, anyway? This talking thing long before the sun even comes up? I decide he needs projects to do. He needs ideas to draw. He needs rocks to move around, even under the soon to be snow. After I have discovered why hot air rises and he has played Winter Wonderland and Jingle Bells on his harmonica, I can take it no longer and ask, Do you hear it? Hear what? he questions. Your work room downstairs is summoning you to come paint the swing for next Spring. After a moment of silence and a slight pause (as I held my breath) he said, I think I do hear it. He pushed his chair back from the breakfast table and left the kitchen. Good call.
