Were pleased to announce the Dog Days of Summer event raised $25,000 for the proposed John Gorrie Dog Park in Riverside Park. Area merchants who participated in the week long fundraising event raised $15,000 for the park. In addition to this support, a generous $10,000 donation was received from Pet Paradise. This brings the remaining fundraising goal down to $15,000, and plans can start moving forward with the city once $5,000 more is raised. “At Pet Paradise, we are committed to supporting our local communities and neighborhoods, explains Chief Operating Officer Fernando Acosta-Rua. “We are honored to play a small part in the wonderful work the Riverside Avondale Preservation team is doing to bring this new dog park to the Jacksonville community.” The John Gorrie Dog Park at Riverside Park is a two-acre, off-leash dog park that will be free and open to the public. It includes a grassy small dog area with old growth trees and a large dog area under the canopy of the Fuller Warren Bridge and is a wonderful new amenity for our urban core neighborhoods. In order for it to be a free use park, RAP is required to raise the funds now to build the park and provide the first five years of maintenance. “We are amazed at the generous support received from the community,” Riverside Avondale Preservation Executive Director Carmen Godwin said. “The John Gorrie Dog Park at Riverside Park is close to becoming a reality and we look forward to the enrichment to our community that it will provide.”
