Were really close to making some announcements about the selections for the 2014 LIFF World Animation Award programme, but heres an older short animated film thats one for the trivia fiends! Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky’s orchestral piece Night on Bald Mountain is well known from a scene in the Walt Disney animated film Fantasia (1940) - which is screening at #LIFF28 on Weds 12th Nov, 13:30 and Sun 16th Nov, 16:00. But the music was put together with animation much earlier, in this eerie 1933 film by Alexandre Alexeieff & Claire Parker. According to Ukranian legend, Bald Mountain is the gathering place of Satan and his followers. Here on Walpurgis Night (the equivalent of Halloween), the creatures of evil gather to worship their master. They dance furiously until dawn and the sounds of church bells send them away. We love it, and its so seasonal too.
