Were receiving more calls about leaf drop on cherry this week. Shot hole disease caused by the fungus Blumeriella jaapi generally is not a serious, life threatening problem. It could be thought of as a chronic problem. The severity of the disease may vary from year to year depending on the species/cultivar. Prevention would involve multiple sprays with a fungicide labeled for shot hole. Personally, I would ride it out and hope for better prospects (and less conducive weather next year). Only in the most extreme circumstances would I recommend a spray program for an ornamental cherry in a home or commercial landscape. AW
