Were so excited that Sky Mundell, Vancouver Islands Got Talent - TopicsExpress

Were so excited that Sky Mundell, Vancouver Islands Got Talent 2011 winner, will be performing for our Skys the Limit benefit concert this Saturday! Sky was born very prematurely, and the complications surrounding his birth have left him completely blind, profoundly deaf, with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, and a host of other physical and mental problems. Throughout his life Sky enjoyed experimenting with anything that could make a loud noise, especially electronic keyboards, drums, and cupboard doors. At age 17 with no training, he surprised everyone by playing jazz classics on the piano extremely well, and at age 19 he entered and won “Vancouver Island’s Got Talent”. As a result he is now mentored by jazz pianist George Essihos and is eagerly learning the techniques of audio recording from his friends at Oakstone Sound. Sky thinks that being blind helps him to focus on the music so that he can “feel it” and can learn a new song after hearing it just once. He thinks that having Cerebral Palsy has taught him to be patient and to persevere. Autism has given him the remarkable memory that lets him pick out every note in a chord and remember hundreds of melodies. He just wants that extra hearing that will give him the full range of the notes, but he can make beautiful music with the ones he can hear. He plays the piano in the style of the jazz greats of the 40s 50s and sixties. Thank you Sky Mundell, and cant wait to hear you play!
