Were very quick to say Ahl Sunnah... We’re very quick to say ‘ahl as sunnah wal jamaa’ah’ but do wr actually know what jamaa’ah is? Most people when asked will say ‘the majority of people’ but that is in fact incorrect. The jamaa’ah is that which clings to the haq, and the scholar who is closest to adhering to the sunnah of the Prophet Sallallahu alayh wa sallam. Think about it, if more people were upon falsehood than the haq, would it make baatil the jamaa’ah? Of course not. The haq has been defined by Allah and His Rasool and will forever remain like that. The jamaa’ah are those who cling to the haq, and even if only ONE person remained on the haq it would still be the jamaa’ah. ●Ibn Mas’ood (d. 32H) said:“The jamaa’ah is whatever agrees with the truth – even if you are alone.” [Reported in Taareekh Dimashq with an authentic chain of narration] ●Ishaaq Ibn Raahawaih (d. 238H), (the teacher of Imaam Bukhaaree) said:“If you were to ask the ignorant people about the ‘Main Body’ they would say, ‘The majority of people.‘ they do not know that the jamaa’ah is the scholar who clings to the narrations from the Prophet (saw) and his way. So whoever is with the him (the scholar) and follows him, then he is the Jama’ah.” [Aboo Nu’aym in Hilyatul Awliyaah] May Allah keep us steadfast upon the haq. Ameen.
