Wesley was an Anglican progressive who understood that - TopicsExpress

Wesley was an Anglican progressive who understood that sanctification was a process and not a proud poets judgement call. I hunger for doctrinal discussion with a Wesleyan depth of thought, research annotations, and the who, what, why, where, when and how of the scriptures and discussion of Jesus response by his life, surrender to death and the witness of his resurrection. Since we believe eternal life for others is at stake in our discussion why must comments descend to hyperbole. One can have a heart for the scriptures while yet have a heart hardened in the stones of the great accuser Moses…the words of Jesus. Dare we misread his Good News and commit sins of omission in hatred by the closing our ears to his unorthodox loving words and his unorthodox life response to the orthodoxy of law makers and law givers. With self-righteous pride we can abide in the law and not yet abide in him. The good and Holy works of man is in truth the broad wide popular path to heaven. I would rather the narrow way Jesus the King of Mercy trod who would forgive even his own killers as he hung dying on the cross. If with DOCTRINAL TRUTH we answer the covenant call of the New Testament, we follow the King in his passion to the cross and we put aside our own passionate penchant to judge our brothers and sisters lest we be judged. We lay down lives lived to legalisms that condemn us in the greatest sin of spiritual pride. Love our enemies as ourselves as the King told us to. We must serve others with a spirit of mercy and forgiveness with gifts of love from the spirit of love as we are gifted. Let us pray for those who are without love. Let us pray for a Holy Spirit baptism that creates a new heart circumcised to love. One gifted with poetry could begin with a humble daily spiritual practice of writing a little love haiku after a meditation on the loving words of Christ. Pleasing to the ear is the Psalmists lyric of love. Righteous words of law without love, James says, are clanging gongs.
