West Alabama Gazette closes By Peyton Bobo I am saddened to say that this issue of The West Alabama Gazette (WAG) is the last one that will be published. The newspaper ends with this edition. Circumstances beyond my control compel me to close the newspaper. Publication of the WAG was made more difficult with the death of Barbara. We were co-editor/ publisher and the work of both of us was vital. For the last two years, and especially the last six months, Barbara’s sickness kept her from working. I struggled, along with the Gazette crew, and we got out the WAG. It has become increasing difficult to publish and the loss of the contacts and friends that Barbara had, made it even more difficult to procure advertisers. Still we could publish the paper were it not for other matters that I cannot overcome. The only solution was closing the newspaper. I want to especially thank the good crew of workers, Elaine, Lateekia, Paula, Janis, Mechie, Wayne, Dwight and the rest, including all those from the past years, who are too numerous to name. And, of course, our canine columnists, Hallie Jo and her predecessor Hallie. I thank the loyal readers and subscribers and also thank you for your many comments and words of condolence (for Barbara and the WAG). They all mean a lot to me. Instead of lamenting the loss of the newspaper, let us remember the good times and the fun times we all had along the way and be glad for them. There were many of them. In my daily life throughout the years, I was always on the lookout for interesting pictures and stories to share with Gazette readers. Finding a good feature story or picture was a joy to my heart. I always thought Gazette readers would enjoy reading and/or seeing them as much as I did. Yes, you were always on my (our) mind.
