West Papua Human Rights Desk Representative in Australia, Paula Makabory has capitalised on the physical closeness of the venue of the West Papua Unification Committee’s launching of its fundraising drive at Independence Garden last Friday, to MSG Secretariat, to appeal to the MSG member countries to also contribute towards the effort now that the Government has pledged Vt5 million for transfer into the committee’s bank account. She says freedom is not something that is easy to get but that it is very expensive for which West Papuans sacrifice their lives to earn and enjoy. “Here I am, standing in this land (in Port Vila) to speak but in West Papua, there are sixty political prisoners who have been jailed by the Indonesians for speaking out their God-given rights to rid themselves of the colonial yoke, to decide their own destiny in their own land”, she says.
