West, Traweek, Moss victorious, three runoffs to be held info@browncountyindependent The 2014 Republican Primary has come and gone and with it, Brown County voted for some familiar faces and welcomed some new ones. Three races were so close that a runoff on May 27th will be required. A total of 6,375 ballots were cast between early voting and Tuesday’s election day, which is roughly 28% of the total registered voters in Brown County. In the race for Brown County Judge, incumbent Ray West retained his seat with 2,976 votes, followed by Ronnie Lappe with 1,599 votes and Dennis Graham with 1,370 votes. West received 50.06% of the votes, which was just enough to avoid a runoff. West will now head to the general election in November to face Independent Joe Cooksey. Sam Moss defeated Incumbent Frank Griffin in the race for Brown County Court at Law Judge with 3,309 votes. Griffin received 2,570 votes. The race for district clerk will require a May 27th runoff. Lead vote getter Cheryl Jones netted 2,616 votes, with Brenda Arp receiving 2,007 votes and Sheena Cantwell garnering 1,150 votes. Joel Kelton, County Commissioner for Precinct 2 retained his office with 522 votes while his challenger Adron Beck received 422 votes. Precinct 4 Incumbent Commissioner Larry Traweek also retained his seat, receiving 878 votes, with challenger David Carroll receiving 512. Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 is another election that will require a May 27th runoff. Incumbent Bob Wall led with 384 votes, followed by Michael Holder with 350 votes and John Lawson Sr. with 206 votes. The office of Constable Precinct 3 will also require a runoff. CT Ham received 632 votes, with Roy Parrack receiving 631 and Jason Cockerham tallying 495.
