West Virginia University School of Music Faculty Profile of the Week: Dr. Mary Ferer Mary Tiffany Ferer received her Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Illinois, her M.Mus. in Organ and Church Music from the University of Colorado, and her B.A. in Music from Carleton College. Dr. Ferer teaches courses for undergraduates as well as seminars for graduate students on various periods and topics of music history. Special interests include the liturgical and cultural contexts of music, sacred repertories of the sixteenth century, and the music of J. S. Bach. Dr. Ferer has published five volumes in modern edition of motets by sixteenth-century composer Thomas Crecquillon for the American Institute of Musicology. Her recent book, Music and Ceremony at the Court of Charles V: The Capilla Flamenca and the Art of Political Promotion, was published by Boydell & Brewer in March 2012. Dr. Ferer has also published articles on music for the feast of St. John the Baptist and on the music and cult of St. Cecilia in the Renaissance. Publications in The Renaissance Quarterly and Early Music are forthcoming. Dr. Ferer’s research has been presented at conferences in the United States and the Netherlands and has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the West Virginia Humanities Council.
