West Virginia’s state park system is adding another recreation - TopicsExpress

West Virginia’s state park system is adding another recreation twist to encourage family and youth activities to enjoy exercise and fun. This time it is Knee Hockey. “North Bend State Park has Box Hockey, Pipestem has introduced FootGolf, and now Chief Logan Lodge has Knee Hockey,” said Paul Redford, a district administrator with the state park system. Knee Hockey, also called mini hockey, is played indoors on a carpeted surface. Knee hockey players stay on their knees to play. The rules are similar to standard hockey, but the close quarters and lack of mobility require a few differences. The basic idea is the same as standard hockey: knock the puck into the opposing teams goal. “The lodge is open year-round for family and friends to enjoy,” Redford said. “We also see the complex as attractive to youth teams and active friends and families to consider for overnight needs. Families who travel to our area for sporting events look for accommodations. That also means including a little more when traveling with youth. When league play or tournaments are over for the day, kids look for more to do. Chief Logan Lodge has a fun zone set aside specifically for Knee Hockey so ‘game time’ doesn’t interfere with other hotel guests.” Chief Logan Lodge is a few miles away from Charleston, but the rooms, ample parking, space and amenities make the 45-minute drive extremely attractive for sports families looking for good accommodations and reasonable rates with a little extra for families on the go. “Hat Trick” rate in effect A “Hat Trick” is defined as three successes, especially consecutive ones within a limited period. Chief Logan Lodge currently offers a “Hat Trick” sports family rate which covers (1) an overnight stay in a room at Chief Logan Lodge with two queen sized beds; (2) express breakfast, and (3) complimentary use of the Chief Logan Recreation Center. The “Hat Trick” rate is $89 per night. Ask for it when making reservations to get the discount. Additionally, families wearing team apparel during check-in will receive a free appetizer in the restaurant. The maximum occupants per room are four individuals. Rooms have a microwave, mini-refrigerator, flat screen television and coffee maker. There are 40 rooms with two queen beds in this 75-room hotel. Chief Logan Lodge has a full-service restaurant and lounge in the complex as well as an indoor swimming pool and fitness center. A fire ring, hiking trails, and playground are also on-site at the lodge. Chief Logan Recreation Center The Chief Logan Recreation Center is a plus for youth and team travel. In addition to the Knee Hockey area, Chief Logan has an indoor swimming pool and fitness center. Overnight guests at Chief Logan Lodge have access to the indoor pool and facility. Disc golf and outdoor soccer fields are also at the recreation center, which is about two minutes from the lodge. Directions Chief Logan Lodge is about a 45-minute drive from Charleston.
