West tops Southwest in back-and-forth affair, 5-3 West and Southwest passed the lead back and forth six times on Thursday at Connie Mack Field, but in the end West pulled out a 5-3 win in seven innings over Southwest. West pulled out the win thanks to a strong sixth inning. West went up for good on an RBI single by Kendall Rauk off Sabrina Garcia, plating Megan Delaney. Jaime Schafer racked up two RBIs on three hits for West. She singled in the first, third, and sixth innings. Macey Newbarys 15 strikeouts were enough to push West past Southwest. Newbary allowed three earned runs, five hits and one walk over seven innings. Southwest was led by Brissa Riveras hitting. Rivera went 2-3 and scored two runs. She doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning. Garcia was the games losing pitcher. She lasted just six innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed five runs. The bottom of the first saw West take an early lead, 1-0. The West attack began with a single from Adessa Gagner. Then moved Gagner from first to third. Schafer singled, scoring Gagner. West pushed across one run in both the third inning and the fifth. In the third, West scored on an RBI double by Callie McKillop, plating Schafer. Southwest tied the game in the fourth on an RBI single by Garcia that scored Sarah Sandoval. West didnt give up the lead after the sixth inning. Additional runs came from an RBI single by Schafer.
