Western Maryland Scenics Brush Tunnel with WMR 2-8-0 #734 bursting forth! Now listen to the sound file that goes with this image: https://soundcloud/w-boxhead/brushtunnel (click on the pause (>) button to start) Brush Tunnel is 914-foot (279m) long and was bored as a double-track tunnel in 1911, located about 1 mile (1.6km) west of Corriganville, Maryland. Today only one track is retained to Frostburg for use by the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad: wmwestsub/connellsvillesub/brushtunnel.htm On taking this photo, Trains at Night says These smaller spaces are a far bigger challenge than big, wide open ones. I spent an hour during the day planning out the lighting for this photograph. I enjoyed talking with people out walking on Great Allegheny Passage, which shares the trails roadbed in this area. One man with a dog warned me of bears! The gear had to be hauled a mile up the 1.5% grade using a hand truck. I fogged up everything huffing and puffing up the hill but the Western Maryland Scenic Railroads #734 put on a much more impressive show. You can enjoy the audio in the sound file [above].
