Western Screech Owl #0599-14: RELEASE DAY!! Many, many thanks goes out to Don and Carol M., for their generous donation and for providing us with an amazing release site! Don and Carol have provided HDWRR with the funding for some much needed flight pens. These pens are vital to the successful rehab of birds. They are the final pen a patient goes into prior to release. Here, the birds can gain back their muscle mass (with exercise) and stamina, along with getting used to the day/night cycle and weather conditions. HDWRR needs to construct multiple pre-release flight pens, as we take care of ANY/ALL birds - songbirds, corvids, birds of prey, waterfowl (ducks, geese) and sea/water birds (grebes, loons, pelicans, etc). This little Screech was happy to be free, once again. He flew fast and strong, and landed in a nearby tree, where he sat and watched us watching him. He was released far away from any busy roads, as he came to us after being struck by a car.
