Western culture evolved radically around the mid 20th century in terms of relationship dynamics that culminated into marital alliances. Two individuals liked each other enough to get into a live-in relationship first before finalising their marriage. This way they got a good enough idea of what they were getting into. Even then the divorce rate has been as high as 50% in the American context. In India and other conservative nations, the concept of live-in relationship is still considered taboo and frowned upon. Discovering each others personalities post marriage is like a lottery ticket ! Either you hit a jackpot or stay bewildered for the rest of your life ... haha !
