Western so-called Muslim scholars and leaders need to do more to combat this prevailing ignorance among Kuffar and claimants to Islam alike: On Sunday one northern town, Jarablus, saw a poster erected by ISIS threatening thieves with having their hand cut off -- an extreme form of punishment mandated by radical readings of Islamist, or Sharia, law. Debate the finer details of Maslahah vs. Mafsadah all you want, but when it comes to declaring what mainstream Islam consists of, then it is whatever Allah and His Messenger have commanded and forbidden. There is nothing radical or extreme about confirming the Hadd of theft in Islam. Once misconceptions like that are eliminated, the Kuffar and claimants to Islam will be able to make a more accurate judgment about Muslims and Islam. Unfortunately, both Muslims and the Deen would have to be declared radical and extreme, but so be it.
