Westfield Babe Ruth Team Heads to World Series Westfield, MA (WGGB)—-One local Babe Ruth team is making their final preparations before heading south for the World Series. The 14-year-old Greater Westfield Babe Ruth team is heading out tomorrow morning to take part in the league World Series tournament in Ocala, Florida. The team advanced to this stage after a thrilling 5-4 walk-off win over Trumbull Connecticut to win the New England Regional Tournament. The team is looking forward to the one of a kind experience as well as representing Western Mass on a national stage. “It means a lot to us,” said left fielder Mitchell Longley. “We’ve worked for this for two years and that was our goal at the beginning of the season to win regionals and make World Series. We’re going down there to win but take in the experience at the same time. It is a once in a lifetime experience.” “We just grew as a family,” explained pitcher Dalen Mochak. “We worked together and got really close. We practice every day, play everyday, work together and work hard at every practice. It’s exciting to think we’re the best team in New England and that we’re going down to represent the region.” The team is currently collecting donations to offset the expensive travel costs. If you would like to donate you can mail a check to: The Greater Westfield Babe Ruth Baseball League P.O.Box 431 Westfield, Mass 01086. Contributions will be accepted until August 15.
