Westpoint Park FC, Away, 06/10/2013 Westpoint Park FC u9’s 1-4 Newcastle Town u9’s (Harley Cole 3, Aiden Mellor) Westpoint Park FC u9’s 1-2 Newcastle Town u9’s (Rio Birt, Aiden Mellor) A Harley Cole hat-trick inspired Newcastle Town u9’s to victory away at Westpoint Park FC. Castle came into the game without strikers Jake Till and Josh Onions leaving them to call upon winger Cole to fill the void. The number 10 did just that in style to put last week’s double defeat to Stone Dominoes Black well and truly behind them. Castle dominated the game and returned to the sort of form which has gained so many plaudits in what is their first season together. Winger Aiden Mellor and Cole terrorised the home side in the opening exchanges with midfielders Isaac Goodall and Rio Birt controlling the build up play. Cole tested the keeper early on with a couple of half chances and Mellor continuously whipped in his trademark crosses. It was the home side however who took an early lead. Their number 11 fired in an unstoppable free kick into the top corner to earn his side a surprise lead. That lead didn’t last long as two minutes later Cole was brought down on the right flank. Mellor then put the ball perfectly towards the back post and Cole showed fantastic technique to volley home the equaliser. Mellor was then put through clear but his effort was superbly blocked by the out rushing keeper. Somehow the home side held on to go in at the break level. Castle continued their dominance during the second half and it was a question of when not if the winner would come. The second came from some individual brilliance from Cole. Captain Birt lobbed a ball over the top from inside his own on half for Cole to run onto. Cole took the ball down brilliantly and outpaced the last defender before rounding the keeper and slotting home a second. Goodall was then brought down for a penalty following a mazy run into the box going past three defenders. Cole stepped up for his hat-trick but fired wide of the right hand post. Cole did eventually get his third after a Mellor shot was parried into his path to fire into an empty net for his first career hat-trick. Castle grabbed a fourth at the end as an indirect free kick inside the box was well worked between Mellor and Goodall. Mellor’s deflected effort found the back of the net to top off three thoroughly deserved points for Castle. Newcastle Town u9’s did the double over Westpoint Park u9’s as captain Rio Birts first goal for the club inspired a well fought victory. With only one substitute at their disposal Castle were understandably tired but still dominated the game and secured another vital three points. The first half was a case of the away side doing everything but put the ball in the back of the net. Westpoint found themselves under a constant barrage of Aiden Mellor crosses which just lacked a final touch. The half was summed up in one moment when Harley Cole was put clear one on one with the keeper and ran into the box. Just as he struck the ball it took a bobble and was sent high and wide. Castles persistence finally paid off mid way in the second half. The always reliant Birt dispossessed a Westpoint midfielder and burst into the oppositions half. Birt found himself one on one with the last defender and Cole free to be put through. However the captain had other ideas. He dropped his shoulder to beat the last man and cut in from the right. He then rifled the ball across the keeper and off the post and in for his first for the club. Two minutes later Westpoint somehow found an equaliser. A mix up at the back left Henry Hadgett stranded out of his goal and the ball was slotted home from WestPoint’s only effort of the game. Castle managed to respond in dramatic fashion. Just as it looked like the home side would escape with an undeserved draw top scorer Mellor found the top corner. Cole tried to work a shooting angle in the box only to be tackled by a defender. The ball then fell kindly to Mellor on the edge of the box and the winger took a touch and struck a stunning effort straight into the top corner for the winner. Report by Harry Everist
