Weve always been resilient. Weve been called the bravest city in - TopicsExpress

Weve always been resilient. Weve been called the bravest city in the world. The Times has called Karachi Pakistans Dark Heart - Karachi is doomed. Karachi is indestructible. We Karachiites have a supernatural knack for overcoming the most mind-numbing of incidents in the face of moving on. I always considered that our strength, I am now forced to wonder if thats in fact our biggest weakness. Theres a fine line between being resilient and being absolutely insane. What should be one of the most secure places in our country gets infiltrated, attacked, laid a siege on and burnt up. Blackouts follow through the night. Youd expect the city to be at a traumatic halt for the week to follow but the very next morning traffic, people, everyday life is normal and resumed. Malls are open. Everybodys at work. You discuss what happened the night before and move on to discuss the last movie you saw or a haircut you got. We dont even so much as stop a day to commemorate the people who lost their lives last night protecting ours. This is not being resilient anymore. This is being mentally insane. This is acting numb, ludicrous, turning a blind eye to every problem we face and I know discussing it day in and out wont help anyone but perhaps thats precisely why Karachi and Karachiites have become the easiest target. We just physically cant muster the emotions to care for anything anymore. And beyond any attack, bombing, target killing or siege, I think this is what our biggest destruction as a society lies in.
