Weve been super busy with many great adoptions yesterday and success in meeting our Match! Without the volunteers holding down the fort and making things happen, I wouldnt be able to do what I do best. Yesterday I received a call from a woman named Judy who lived in Mt. Angel, Oregon (1 1/2 hr. from Portland) that was given my number from someone at the local store. Judy had reported an abandoned chiweenie at her neighbors home several times to Animal Control without any success and thankfully, she called me. This family had packed up and moved, took their belongings and the puppies the female had had a few months ago, and left the Momma behind. Discarded as having no worth! I asked Volunteer Ginny and Volunteer Kaylee to stay as long as they could because I had a long drive ahead of me and it was time to hit the road. When I arrived, my heart dropped to my stomach! How can people be so disposable? How can they just walk away, start a new life and leave behind a family member? This poor baby was left outside on the property with her only belonging - a disgusting plastic crate, no blankets no nothing! But hey, she was something when she was producing babies! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR... She was very scared as you can well imagined, noticing one eye was blind, limited hearing, one of her back legs deformed and hair loss on both ears. I calmly knelt down, extended my hand with treats in it and quietly told her it was all OK.. she was safe! She inched closer, trusting that something good was happening. And the best gift came into my arms as we left the past (and all the filth) behind. She did well in the wire crate with all the cozy blankets and off to Companion Pet Clinic for Dr. Robison to examine her. He estimated her to be 5 years old and did a quick examine. When she is more comfortable, she will be fully vetted, spayed and given the best! She is very sweet, shy/timid and guarded; with patience, gentleness, love and health, she will have a new quality life. OH I forgot to tell you... when I called Ginny back to give her an update, Ginny asked for her to be named Holly. Please give a huge welcome and say HELLO to a very precious girl, Holly!
