Weve had a few comments about the millage signs and they deserve our reply. Heres the short answer. We purchased 30 signs at $35 that will be reused throughout the 36 months of the current road millage. Try dividing $1,050/$13,500,000. Pretty small number. Here’s our rationale. Based on the calls we get in the office, many people dont realize a millage has been passed, let alone know how it’s being spent. We can post all day on Facebook, put it on our webpage and send a news release to the Record Eagle, and still not get the message out to the people traveling our roads. We really feel it is the best way to let Grand Traverse County residents know how their hard-earned dollars are being sent. Additionally, the signs are intentionally generic and be reused on all current and future projects. PS. As to the suggestion of using markers on cardboard. With the recent rain we’ve had, magic marker on cardboard wouldn’t cut it. When we finally get some sunshine, anything written would be faded. That would be a waste of time to keep signs like that installed and readable.
