Weve not personally met these two little story-book characters, - TopicsExpress

Weve not personally met these two little story-book characters, but their tale is much more touching than the Grimms version. You see, the big bad witch who was featured in this story is the person who bred and kept the two rabbit beagles secluded from human contact, and the love and comfort that humans can offer. We realize that to some folks, dogs are property and money makers, and serve only one purpose. Those are not the folks we serve, however. Shelter workers and rescuers who care for canines and felines feel compassion for the hearts and souls of the dogs and cats. It tears our hearts out to see terrified, quivering, fur-covered bones with infected skin and no hope of life brought in to our facilities. And we have to help. We dont give up. HANSEL and GRETEL need help. They are ten pound beagles who were never touched by a human until they were captured and taken to Appomattox Animal Shelter. They are considered to be feral, but not feral to the point of attacking. They deal with their fear by shutting down. In a pack of other dogs where they can be invisible, they can learn social skills with the other dogs, watch the others integrate with a family, and learn to be accepting of humans. It may be months before they are okay. So their ideal placement is this: securely fenced yard, access to a doggy door and confined area in the home, and other dogs who will be nurturers. Yes, it is a long-term commitment! Yes, the expenses for these two are covered! Yes, you will cry but you will also cheer, because for every step back, you will also move forward. Can you do it?
