We’re thrilled that our business driven philanthropy model has inspired the work of a member of the Spark community in Malawi. Andrew, a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi, spent close to a month of his time helping provide some key expertise to the poultry farm in Zambia this spring. He used the stipend Spark paid him for his consulting work in part to help fund his own social enterprise poultry operation, and just recently sent us these photos, along with a note on their progress: “The first is what our chicken house looked like in February of last year (2013). It was literally a pig sty, and an abandoned one at that. The second picture is of the same building, refurbished, and our brand-new, very awesome and partially Spark-financed 500-bird capacity purpose-built chicken house… our birds are about done brooding and are scheduled to move into their new mansion on Friday. So, from the bottom of my heart and those of everyone at Kaseye Hospital, Thank You. [Profits] will go to very good use purchasing medicine and medical supplies and petrol” Congratulations Andrew on the launch of your farm. We look forward to continued updates on your success!
