We’ve been celebrating ten years of Active Schools and recently it’s been all about athletics! 500 children from 19 primary schools from across West Fife took part in a sportshall athletics event at Carnegie Leisure Centre to celebrate. Track events included obstacle relay, pairs relay, hurdles relays, over & under relay and 4 x 1 relay. Field events included chest push, standing triple jump, standing vertical jump, standing long jump, speed bounce and javelin. Overall winners were Dalgety Bay Primary School (in the morning session) and Donibristle Primary School (in the afternoon). Active schools ambassadors helped organise and oversee the event. It was a great example of partnership working between the Councils Active Schools & Sports Development teams along with the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and Dunfermline West Fife Sports Council. Meanwhile in Glenrothes, the Fun in Athletics Festival was held at the Michael Woods Sports & Leisure Centre with 237 pupils from 12 schools from central Fife taking part. The Festival was supported by students from Fife College and Sports Leaders from St Andrews RC High School. Pupils showing best effort in the various disciplines were given certificates of achievement and everyone taking part was given information about the Run, Jump, Throw Clubs in the area. The top four schools on the day were Carleton, St Patricks, Kennoway and Strathallan Primary Schools. Follow Active Fife for regular updates on what the team are doing to help pupils across Fife get and stay active!
