We’ve been hearing a lot about racism, especially in the case of the Ferguson riots. However, there seems to be a double standard when it comes to who is allowed to be racist, and it’s starting to show. Recently, while an elderly white woman was walking through Central Park, she was shot in the head with a pellet gun. Moments later, she heard someone yell, “all white people suck.” All she did to provoke the abuse was walk by a group of black youths in the park. She told reporters that she had her back facing them when she felt a “horrible” pain the back of her head. “My hand went up to my head, and there was blood gushing everywhere,” the elderly woman explains. “I turned around, and I said ‘What are you doing? Why are you doing this to me? What’s wrong with you people?’” The response the woman received was shocking. “F___ you, you f______ white b____,” one woman in the group yelled. Another black male jumped from a bush and yelled, “F___ white people.” The group then left the scene, leaving the elderly woman injured and crying. Luckily, she was brought to a hospital and treated shortly thereafter. “It was a hate crime,” she claims. “For no reason at all. I was just walking by. There was no sort of eye movement. There was no altercation, confrontation, anything like that.” What do you think? Why are stories like this one making headlines?
