We’ve been strategically atomized and alienated. Our world is - TopicsExpress

We’ve been strategically atomized and alienated. Our world is getting less and less human, but it’s all done under the guise of advancement so we all think it’s great. CVS (and other many stores) has largely replaced their cashiers with robots, right? Which in turn makes all of US act like robots to fit in with the robot cashiers! We have to listen to the prompts and behave in a very specific manner so that it can read the barcodes. So which one of us is the robot?? Basically CVS said, “Hey, you know that shitty shopping experience we ALREADY provided for you to buy hair products that are probably giving you cancer? We’ve made that worse and more alienating. So come in, act like a robot, and the robots will help you. We’re CVS – your neighborhood dystopian future TODAY!” I like a human! I like dealing with someone who talks to me. Someone jaded and bored who hates me FOR ME! She has said hello, sized me up, and decided that she really hates me for who I am. Super friendly robot cashiers have HONESTLY made me MISS the confrontational, unhappy, rude HUMANS of the old days! OH HOW I LONG FOR THE DAYS OF A CONVENIENCE STORE WITH A GOOD, SOLID ASSHOLE BEHIND THE COUNTER! But let me clarify – I’m not opposed to technology. This tech could be used to benefit workers rather than displace them and send all the profits to the richest at the top.
