What A Friend! Friendship is an elusive commodity. I have sought - TopicsExpress

What A Friend! Friendship is an elusive commodity. I have sought quotes and illustrations on this topic and found only a few observations I found to be enlightening... but the few that I did find were enlightening: One Native American Indian Tribe described a friend as: someone who carries my sorrows on his back. Someone else has observed: A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. One little boy gave this definition: A person who knows us - and still likes us. But one of my favorite definitions of friendship is one given by famous philosopher - Winnie the Pooh: If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you. True friends are as precious as jewels because they are the ones that stay close beside you, when you need them the most. One day Job was suffering... he was in torment. And then along came his friends. They accused him of having sinned. They said that his afflictions were the result of some evil that he had done. But in Job 16:19-21 Job cries out: Even now my witness is in heaven; my advocate is on high. MY INTERCESSOR IS MY FRIEND as my eyes pour out tears to God; on behalf of a man he pleads with God AS A MAN PLEADS FOR HIS FRIEND. Jobs earthly friends were not really friends at all... But Job knew that there was somebody in Heaven interceding for him. Pleading for him. And he knew that - whoever it was - this someone WAS his friend. What a Friend we have in Jesus! Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
