What Can We Do to Help Bring Missing Dogs/Cats Home? Yesterday - TopicsExpress

What Can We Do to Help Bring Missing Dogs/Cats Home? Yesterday Mom walked over 6 miles looking for 6 dogs. She was calling and looking for Nikki Laster’s Yorkie (Lucky), Her black and white Pekingese (Uno), and her black lab mix (Lillie) in the Valley Drive area. BUT as 2 other labs and Bre Fesperman’s Max also disappeared in the same area she was looking for all 6. The wonderful news is that Nikki’s Lillie was back home this morning, but Lucky, Uno, Max and the other 2 labs are still missing in this area. Mom walked Vicker’s Store Road, Tom Road and part of Morrow Mountain Road, and Valley Drive looking for these missing dogs and the area is so expansive that it is scary. SO When one of our fur children is missing what can we do to help locate them? 1. Microchip in addition to collars with tags that contain your current phone numbers/address. In the case of our canines they are notorious for losing their collars and tags so PLEASE PLEASE microchip your fur children. AND when you have your dog or cat into the vet for anything PLEASE ask them to check your chip. Microchips can float AND they can come out after they have been injected before the skin heals over. SO PLEASE always check to make certain that your chip can be easily located. 2. Immediately put up LARGE Posters (Pictures and your BEST Contact INFO). When Fluffy Jack and Theodore Jack escaped out an upstairs window we did run into problems with the city ordinance and posters, BUT you need to put them up and they need to be noticeable. Yesterday I walked the area and totally missed 2 posters that were up on either side of Valley Drive at Vickers Store Road and Clodfelter Road. Tom noticed them when we were driving the area again, but I missed them completely and I walked the area. 3. Put a LARGE Poster (Bright Posterboard) with a Large Picture of your missing cat/dog and your contact info in the back window of your car. You never know who might see your car but not your post on facebook. 4. Go door to door with flyers. This can be long and tedious BUT once again someone in the area might not be on facebook BUT may have seen your dog or cat. Once again best pictures and your best contact info. IF someone sees your cat/dog they need to be able to reach you immediately. 5. Give flyers to everyone – all vet offices, pet stores, groomers, and other local businesses (coffee shops), etc. We also gave them to postal workers and the police when Fluffy Jack and Theodore Jack were missing. 6. Expand your search. Unfortunately in the case of dogs/cats they don’t know county lines and dogs will run miles chasing a scent. So please share your info with Animal Control Offices, Veterinarians, Groomers and Pet Stores in surrounding counties. For Stanly County Missing dogs I would share with Montgomery, Rowan, Davidson, Cabarrus, Union, and Mecklenburg Counties at a minimum. The longer your pet is missing the further I would recommend expanding your search. Let’s Work together and Help Find the Missing Dogs and Cats in Stanly County. Pictured: Lucky, Uno AND Max
