What Coca-Cola gets, but apparently Rush Limbaugh, the Tri-County Congregational Church in St. Cloud, Minn, and others in our Country dont: nearly 40% of the Country self identifies as Hispanic, Black, Asian, American Indian, Hawaiian or other non-white ethnic groups. Hispanics are the largest minority group, with 63% being U.S. Born and another 11% having been naturalized. Of those Hispanics, 64% are Mexican-American which includes 22.3 million Mexican-Americans born in the U.S. So, folks, for those of you out there who think Mexicans singing the National Anthem is an Abomination, please educate yourself that 1. America the Beautiful is NOT the national anthem, that designation belongs to the Star-Spangled Banner. 2. You can (and should) be a U.S. Citizen and speak (or sing) in multiple languages. 3. Just because we are dark skinned and speak Spanish does not mean we are citizens of Mexico. A good majority of us are Mexican (or Hispanic)-AMERICANS, born and raised in this country. 4.the U.S. has no national language, so singing the national anthem or any other American song in any language should not get anyones panties in a bind. It should be embraced for the spirit it was sung in, with joy, pride and a sense of belonging.
