What Does It Make Difference? Once a person while walking on sea - TopicsExpress

What Does It Make Difference? Once a person while walking on sea shore noticed that a person was throwing something from sea shore in sea. When he went near the person then found that the person was throwing alive fish in sea from a heap of dead and live fish. Why are you doing this futile exercise? How many fish you will save in this way? What the difference makes your act? The person threw a fish and said, “It makes difference to this little fish whose life is saved.” A king ordered for filling the village pond with milk. He got announced that in early morning before sunrise every householder will pour pitcher full milk in the pond on certain day. Every house holder was bound to obey the order of the king. On the assigned date and time when the king came for inspection of the pond then he was bewildered to find that in the pond there was only water and no milk. This happened because of our mentality that what will make difference if I pour water instead of milk. Nobody was watching so there was no fear of getting caught doing dishonesty. Greed prevailed over duty. In social life we all talk of honesty and while in action we are dishonest and we justify our dishonesty on the ground that what it makes difference. We travel without ticket, we commit theft of electricity, we weigh less, we try to pay less, we take things without permission and we don’t call taking things from road side farms without permission as theft because these things don’t make any difference to the owner of the farm. We destroy, vandalize, and loot public property and say, “It does not make any difference.” Certainly it is not your personal loss but it is public loss. Public includes every body of course you are included in public. Certainly, our tendency, that it will not make any difference, makes the biggest difference to our personal character as well as to our public behavior in a group. What you think unimportant may be important for others. What difference causes only one number in examination? Ask this question to a student who fails and loses merit in examination. Ask this question to a politician who wins or loses election by the margin of only one vote. Ask this question to the person who was denied ticket because he had one rupiah less in his or her pocket. Ask this question to a passenger who couldn’t board the train because he or she was late only by one minute. Ask this question to the person who escaped or met an accident because of awareness or unawareness for only fraction of seconds. Ask this question to anybody who failed or succeeded because of only one decision in life. Everything makes difference in our life. Be honest and aware in personal as well as in public life because it causes biggest difference to you and the society in which you live. Om Shanti – Peace
