What I Learnt From The Durban Trip: PART ONE. It took a miracle for my Durban trip to be a success last month. When doing my bookings earlier on, they actually booked me & gave me tickets for November instead of December. When me & my wife went to take the bus on 27 Dec (the date that we were meant to travel) we still had not realized that the tickets was written Nov instead of Dec. The bus conductors could have sent us back home disappointed for producing old expired tickets but they fortunately God intervened. They checked our names on the list that was meant to travel that day & our names were not there! Just like us, they also didn’t realize that the tickets were written 27/11/14 instead of 27/12/14. Furthermore we arrived at the station one minute before the departure time so they did have time to investigate why our names were not appearing on the list that was travelling that day. To make the miracle complete the seats number that they had booked us for on our expired 27/11/14 tickets were not occupied or booked by anyone on 27/12/14. So the confused conductors hurried us into ‘our seats’ as the bus was already a few seconds from leaving. But if God had not performed the miracle that day, the trip was going to be doomed. For a moment I had walked in the footsteps of Jacob, almost making an expensive mistake. After working for seven years as payment for Rachel, Jacob was given an old wrong wife Leah (wrongly dated ticket). When he tried to enquire later why he had been given the old Leah instead of his beloved Rachel, he was told that it was not allowed in that country or custom to marry a younger lady before the older/ firstborn sister was married. Jacob had to wait again and work some more before being given his first choice wife, Rachel (Genesis 29:15-20).The carelessness of Jacob made him work overtime. He would have most probably avoided the great surprise of being given a wrong wife & doing extra-work if he had thoroughly investigated and researched about the customs, terms and conditions of his in-law Laban before striking a deal. Its also shocking to note that Jacob was given a wrong wife & slept with her that night without realizing it was not Rachel, only discovering in the morning! Yes the wife was presented to him at night, in darkness, but surely he should have perceived that it was not Rachel. Did Rachel & Leah have exactly the same height? Did they have exactly the same body structure? Did they also have exactly the same voice? During the night did Jacob have exactly the same conversations/charts with Leah as the one he had with Rachel during their more than seven year relationship which made him not to realize at all that this was a wrong woman? One thing is certain, overexcitement & carelessness may cost you big time sometimes. No more outdated bus ticket bookings. Paying close attention to all that we do will save from us from many Leah surprises. This year, resolve to pay very close attention to all you do. It’s a new year, some feel that they are way behind time & as a result they carelessly accept any expired bus ticket and rush back home without checking its validity, ready to accept whoever comes along as their wife/husband without verifying whether is Leah/Rachel. Yes, it’s a new year and still you don’t have a job, but grabbing everything which appears like a job opportunity may make you more miserable at the end of the day. So many desperate unemployed people have fallen prey to bogus ‘employers’ who have robbed them of their last cent they had in the name of the so-called ‘registration fees’. Be thorough this year, be precise. No spelling mistakes in your C.V. No negligence at your work place or in all that you do. Perceive the hidden terms & conditions in all that you buy or business deals & work contracts you sign. You cant afford to let over-excitement overshadow your judgment. Fortune M Mlaga
