What I am about to say may not be terribly popular with some of my - TopicsExpress

What I am about to say may not be terribly popular with some of my friends, but I think that, as Christians, the truth should matter to us - even if it doesnt follow our favorite political narrative. Let me preface by saying that I believe the persecution of Christians by ISIS to be morally reprehensible. Also, I believe Islam to be a false religion in the sense that it was founded by a false prophet. What I am about to say is not a politically correct affirmation of pluralism, at all. That said, I think we do a great disservice to the cause of Christ when we speak and act as if ALL Muslims are terrorists. They are not. There is a great deal of variation within the Muslim community, and we do not do the peaceful Muslims, or ourselves, any favors when we develop suspicions about an entire group out of ignorance. I know many Christians who get terribly upset when they see our religion portrayed in a monolithic and sensational sense by the media. I do to. But the same is true with media treatment of Islam. Also, it is of critical importance that we realize that any hatred that we endorse against a religion under the assumption that they are all extremists, will ultimately, in an almost militantly secular society, spill over on us. Those who see religion of any kind as a cancer will seize upon any opportunity provided by a fringe element, violent, militant Christian to adopt the same guilt by association approach with the Christian faith. It is already happening, to some degree. We should be better than this, folks. We are the ones who should still vigorously affirm innocent until proven guilty and freedom of religion. But beyond that, we need to be ministers of Gods grace to ALL men, even (and perhaps especially) to those whose religion is not centered on Gods mercy. If you disagree, feel free to do so in the comments. But dont just tell me Im wrong. Tell me WHY I am wrong.
