What I called LAUTECH Political Insanity (VOL 2) The legislature performs a variety of functions that underscores its significance under a democratic dispensation. These can be summarized as the policy–making function, representative function we mean a reconciliation or aggregation of divergent interests and demands in the society that finds expression in legislation. The representative function presupposes that legislators are ambassadors of their various constituencies and they act as intermediaries between the students and the government. They are supposed to be the barometer for measuring student’s political climate. The system-maintenance function involves legislative oversight, which translates into a review of programme execution and the performance of the executive arm of the students union government . The ultimate goal of the oversight function is to check tendencies towards Executive recklessness and the implementation of undesirable programmes and projects. As p[art of their oversight functions, the Legislature may conduct investigations into the activities of any executive arm of the students union. They also keep watch over the spending of public funds by the Executive. The supervisory authority of the legislature extends to public institutions established by laws such as public corporations, local authorities or activities that are supported by public funds. The Legislature as the chief organ of the student union government, also performs tangential executive and judicial functions. For example, a number of executive actions such as ratification of international treaties and appointment of The chief Justice (CJ), Transport Management Chief (TMC), and Budget and finances officials (B&F) require legislatures approval But the fact is all this responsibility that has been placed on the neck of the student union representatives can only be put to practice by them only when the students representatives arm is independent and not operating under the umbrella of the university authority. And this can only happens if the most populous honourable on the floor of the house are working for the interest of the students they represent. Another factor is that the Executive arm of the students union government must be independent but the current administration is a different thing entirely The first house sitting that was held to conduct the election of the Budget and Finances officials (B&F), Chief Justice Of the Student union Government (CJ), Transport Management Chief (TMC). Well this house sitting was going on well until some unusual occurrence occurs and a whole Speaker of the Students Union Government has to Run away and left his primary assignment, he even Ran away leaving the sole of the house to security Men. This can only happen in a weak students union government, and in a platform where persons of no integrity are elected into post. How can a Speaker leave his work and ran out of the house sitting I called this Political Insanity . Do you all think that a speaker that was duely elected and sanctified will do such a thing? Its only someone that was accidentally elected to a post that will do such childlessness play. You are the speaker of the Ladoke Akintola Students Union Government, and you should respect the mandate of the people you represent and that is the student. Well when the speaker ran out, the only option left if for the house sitting to come to an end and the business of that day was not concluded. This meeting was unconclusional adjourned. The next business house sitting was slated for Thursday, 25th of September 2014. Well according to the info I have during the time I am writing this article I understand that the seeting was meant to commence 12Noon but to my surprise I was there ny 12 Oclock and there was nothing going on there. The same people that slated the event to come up by 12 were the same people that came late. As you all know that LAUTECH student representatives council consist of about 4 category group of people, the DSMITES, NLVITES, LIBERALIST and Neutral honourable in the house. In which the incumbent government belong to Liberal and its very sickening that Our once Great students union government has now turned to Staff Union Government under this current government. After all the political jamboree by the liberals and some of the staff of the institution, the accreditation started and all the HONS lined up to be accredited. But to my surprise the next thing I saw was the Dean Students Affair, In person of Dr OLATUNDE OLABIYISI started slapping one of the NLV honourable, I couldnt believe what I was seeing but it was really happening.
