What I have ascertained thus far is majority of Sunni Ulema here and in South Africa performed Eid on Monday and have not retracted. They based their view on 26 sightings in South Africa and sightings from Sunni Ulema in Mozambique. Whilst I respect those Sunni Ulema who took a more cautious approach due to the question of ascertaining certainly through mass sighting as per the Hanafi madhab, it is not right for their followers to declare that we must fast qadha or worse kaffara. Our Ulema have differed in the fiqh and we must respect this and stop ignorantly attacking each other. We must also understand that the Morrocan decision to celebrate Eid on Tuesday was based on the Maliki view to accept local sightings only. It must be noted in another African Maliki country Nigeria celebrated Eid Sunday. We didnt accept that claim due to astronomical impossibility and lack of mass sighting. In South Africa there was astromical possibility and sufficient numbers to convince the majority but not all Sunni Ulema. InshaAllah we pray that our Sunni Ulema both here and in South Africa meet and establish consensus on what constitutes mass sighting and global sighting. Until then know that Allah azza wa jal is entirely Just, Wise, Knowing and Compassionate. He is entirely capable of distributing the blessings of Laylat al Qadr and Eid to different groups at different times based on His Knowledge of their sincere scholarly effort and pure intentions to please Him. Alhamdullilah we remain united on rejecting astronomically impossible sightings from Saud and illiterate and political blind following of their sightings to the exclusion of all others.
