What I have to say is probably going to be a little unpopular, but - TopicsExpress

What I have to say is probably going to be a little unpopular, but that’s stopped me before. It has to do with the demonstrations and looting in the Michael Brown case in Missouri. I find it interesting that the minority community can become so galvanized and connected through something like this and demand justice (regardless of guilt or innocence) and retribution when a non-minority is the one preserved to have committed the offense. But if the same events had occurred between two minorities, or if the positions are reversed, they don’t say a word. If you don’t believe me, take any weekend in Chicago. There are no marches or riots or looting when almost two dozen people are shot in a single weekend. But let the one that has the gun be white, and the black community loses its mind. Now I not saying that it’s alright for police officers to shot unarmed civilians (of any color), but when was the last time you saw a mob of whites looting stores and throwing Molotov cocktails because of something that happened? And with all that said, I guess the real point I want to make is if the black community is so interested in justice and the future of these young men, why can’t they channel all of this energy to take a more active role in preventing these types of events before they get to this point? Why can’t they be this concerned and passionate about making sure that these young men (and women) get an education, learn job skills, and have better opportunities to succeed in life while they are still alive, instead of lamenting the loss after the tragedy has occurred? Where is the outrage from these same people over the dropout rates for minorities? Where is the outrage at why these young men don’t have a father in their lives? Where is the outrage at the glorification of the gangster lifestyle (that leads to these types of situations) that is so common in these communities?
