What I think Sam Sumana should do if he is to achieve his goal of becoming the next President after Ernest Bai Koroma. There are two hurdles that could shatter his dream if left ignored. First, getting elected or selected (APC terminologies), for the leadership of the APC and second, winning the 2018 General Election. I’ll start with the leadership of the APC. Prior to putting himself forward for the leadership, he should first of all examine his strength and weaknesses. When put together and compared with those of the other candidates, the end result should positively outweighed his opponents The next move is to go all out to get the core APC ‘Alagba’s’ on his side, without making too many promises that will come to hunt him. Koroma did, only to find his administration not being able to take tough decisions when required to do so. He would need to convince them that he has what it takes to win the 2018 Election for them. This is what they want to hear as it is evident that, to be in the wilderness for another possible 5 or more year could be daunting. Assuming that he is elected or selected, this is how I think he could enhance his chances of becoming the next President. Choosing a Christian running mate should be a must, so as to be seen as religious tolerant. That running mate must be a squeaky clean intelligent female, if Sam is to be globally perceived as being gender conscious. Also, if corrupt and scandal free, she will undoubtedly attract the voters who are already fed up with the old politicians, perceived to be corrupt and continuously bringing disrepute to the country. Furthermore, she should come from one of the popular tribes from the APC stronghold, the North-West, since Sam is already from the South-East.
