What I think about the use of torture. 1) Terrorist attacks can, are, and will be plausible. (assum) 2) If these attacks are plausible, then some form of preventative measures need to be put in place. (1) 3) Torture is a preventative measure only in TTB cases. (assum) 4) If no such cases exist, then torture is not a preventative measure. (3) 5) TTB cases do not exist. (3, 4) 6) Torture is not a preventative measure. (3, 4, 5) 7) If torture is not a preventative measure, then torture isnt effective for preventing terrorist attacks. (1, 6) 8) Torture isnt effective for preventing terrorist attacks. (7) Definitions; TTB (Ticking Time Bomb Scenario)- A scenario in which the attack has been set in motion and a culprit for the attack has been detained but the information about the attack is unknown. Terrorist attacks-intentional harm inflicted upon innocent civilian lives. Torture-an act of deliberately inflicting severe physical pain and possibly injury to a person (or animal), usually to one who is physically restrained or otherwise under the torturers control or custody and unable to defend against what is being done to them (wikipedia; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torture)
