What I wish the world would understand… is that the symptoms of a Mental Illness are caused by the illness, not the person. Therefore, the people are not to blame for having them. If someone is isolating themselves or thinking in black and white, or having any symptoms at all; telling them to stop or blaming them for having them does absolutely nothing for them. In fact, in most cases it can make their symptoms worse. If someone you know was coughing up blood or had broken bones, would you blame them for having these problems? But symptoms of Mental Illnesses are not seen in this way. What those with Mental Illnesses need is compassion, care, and a better understanding. Mental Health Awareness is everything! Educating yourself on the matter is one of the best things to do. Depression is the most unpleasant thing I have ever experienced. . . . It is that absence of being able to envisage that you will ever be cheerful again. The absence of hope. That very deadened feeling, which is so very different from feeling sad. Sad hurts but its a healthy feeling. It is a necessary thing to feel. Depression is very different. -J.K. ROWLING
