What ISIS is not: 12 things 1- not a gang--a true state with institutions. Like them or dislike them, it is the same. 2-not a bunch of kids joking 3-not simply driven by bloodlust... They killed many; they will kill more when they get hold of them. But they are not just killing randomly. Like it or hate it, find it cool or distasteful, they kill Syrian army, Iraqi army at any time, in any shape. That is, they kill them at the battlefield, whenever they encounter them and even if they surrender. They kill Syrian groups who cooperate against them whenever they could them. With Kurdish Bishmarge, Sunni groups and Western individuals, they seem to prefer to hold them for ransom or prisoners exchange or to make a political point. With the Sunnis in Iraq a repentance seems to grant them ISIS forgiveness. 4- not funded by Iran 5- not funded by the US 6-not funded by Qatar 7- not funded by Saudi Arabia 8- not funded by Israel 9-not funded by the Syrian regime 10- do not kill civilians willy-nilly but dont hesitate to kill them if they perceive they are helping or have helped their enemies--a long list. 11- not a branch of the Muslim Brothers. They in fact consider their leaders--not necessarily their members--to be murtadin (apostate) or munafiqin (hypocrites) 12- not a product of the Syrian uprising per se. They have been there and growing since the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Most of their leadership has been to the US prisons and or those of their friends in Iraq.
