What Im seeing here is the #1 reason, to me personally, for banning the carriage horse trade. I have no first-hand experience with how theyre treated; but from what Ive seen through the internet (videos, pictures, comments made by owners...), it seems all about money and little else. Theres not enough policing and not enough enforcing of requirements for GOOD care, it seems. I fear the money-over-all attitude is the prevalent one, too! following is copied and pasted: Pamela Rice Walker This is the horse called Moose I saw last night under duress. This was at 8:55 . His last ride was at 7:30. Almost an hour and 1/2 later he is still gasping for air. I poured a bucket of water on him and told them to stop working him. I had an ACCO follow him back to the barn. I have over 40 years experience raising, breaking horses to ride and training horses, so I do know a horse under duress when I see it. The temperature reached 97 with a heat index of 105 this day in the city. Working on the pavement makes it even hotter.
