What Is the Neighborhood Legislature? Answer: The Neighborhood - TopicsExpress

What Is the Neighborhood Legislature? Answer: The Neighborhood Legislature is an initiative that will fundamentally reform California’s electoral process, take power away from special interest groups and create a citizen-Legislature responsive to the people. The initiative creates small, local districts with each citizen-legislator representing approximately 5,000 constituents. With smaller districts, and with more representatives, special interests will no longer have the stranglehold on the Legislature they have now. Instead, we will have local leaders serving as citizen-legislators—members of the community accountable and responsive to the people who elected them. Does the Neighborhood Legislature remove special interest money from politics? Answer: Yes! Our current legislative system also opens the floodgates for special interests to fund campaigns in these enormous districts throughout California. This has transformed legislators into professional fundraisers who are have grown completely out of touch with the average voter. The Neighborhood Legislature solves lack of representation and special interest control by shrinking legislative districts and localizing campaigns. Door to door efforts are truly meaningful and neighbors know that their vote now holds exponentially more power. The initiative also shrinks government. The 12,000 citizen legislators send 120 Working Committee members to Sacramento, the same number as today, and saves $130 million every year by cutting bloated staffs and salaries. pledge.neighborhoodlegislature/?utm_source=fb&utm_campaign=200signatures&utm_medium=ppc-001
