What Missouri’s Elected Officials are Saying in Support of Amendment #1 “All rights granted to citizens, even those placed in our Constitution, are subject to reasonable regulation. Passage of this amendment would continue to allow agriculture to be subject to reasonable regulation in our state.” – Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster “Agriculture is Missouri’s number one industry. Our farmers and ranchers produce the safest, most abundant, and most affordable food on the planet. Recently, radical environmentalists have declared war on Missouri’s farm families, claiming that they can make better food choices than Missouri families. We need Amendment #1, Missouri’s Right to Farm, to protect the future of Missouri agriculture, and to ensure that when Missouri families go to the grocery store, they are free to purchase the food of their choice.”– Congressman Jason Smith, Missouri 8th District “Missouri’s Right to Farm basically says it right there. We are seeing an onslaught coming from some of the very radical environmental and animal rights groups out there, suing farmers, suing ranchers, suing ag industry. In many cases trying to halt their practices to try to dictate to farmers just exactly how they’re going to produce and how they are going to conduct their business in the future.” – Congressman Sam Graves, Missouri 6th District “We have a lot of people who may be well intentioned; they may think they know the right solution to what they believe or perceive as the problems, but the unintended consequences of their actions are greater than the problems they are trying to solve. As a result, our industry, agriculture, the number one industry in the State of Missouri, is under attack, I believe, and needs to be promoted and protected at all costs.” – Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, Missouri 3rd District “I think Amendment #1 is an opportunity for 2% of the population to receive the overwhelming support morally from 98% of the population. We only have 2% of the U.S. population actually living on farms, so that means that the rest of us are benefitting from them.” – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, Missouri 5th District “Farming is an essential component of Missouri’s economy and its cultural heritage. Our right to farm in this state must be protected against outside groups that are spending money in Missouri to interfere with our agricultural way of life.” – Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, Missouri 4th District “I think if you see what’s going on in California and all the regulations we’re getting in farming communities, it’s important we let people know that it’s important that our farmers are able to farm here in the State of Missouri.” – Congressman Billy Long, Missouri 7th District “Missouri’s Right to Farm ensures that government bureaucrats and special interests cannot trample over the inherent rights of our farmers who allow us to put food on the kitchen table, keep our families healthy and provide essential services we can’t live without. I applaud Amendment 1, and I will fight to ensure its passage this August so that our farmers have the rights they deserve.” – Congresswoman Ann Wagner, Missouri 2nd District
