What?! OBAMA URGES UNCONDITIONAL CEASEFIRE US leader tells Netanyahu to drive for permanent cessation of hostilities based on 2012 ceasefire agreement Operation Protective Edge Day 19: Israel renewed its aerial, naval and ground activity in Gaza on Sunday morning following a wave of 25 rockets from Gaza, after adhering to a UN-requested ceasefire for more than 24 hours. Israels cabinet had decided Saturday night to extend the ceasefire until Sunday at midnight, but Hamas rejected the extension. No humanitarian ceasefire is valid without Israeli tanks withdrawing from the Gaza Strip and without residents being able to return to their homes and ambulances carrying bodies being able to freely move around in Gaza, the organization said. Several of the rockets fired Sunday morning landed in central Israel and Israel responded with artillery fire toward the positions from where the rockets were launched. Since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge, 2,450 rockets were launched from Gaza towards Israel. According to the armys latest data, Israel struck 3,747 terror targets since the beginning of its offensive on July 8. The Palestinian Health Ministry tallies the death toll in Gaza at 1,049, with nearly 6,000 more wounded. On the Israeli side, 43 soldiers have been killed and three Israeli civilians. Some 120 wounded soldiers are currently being treated in hospitals across Israel. Over 65,000 reserve forces have been drafted. Israeli soldiers have unearthed 63 tunnel shafts leading to 31 tunnels, many leading to Israeli territory, 11 of which have been destroyed by Israeli forces.
